I survived my first week in Garmisch! Here's a quick update....
1. I live in an old nazi hospital, known as the "Abrahms" to the Edelweiss staff.
2.My roommate, Amber, is from Oklahoma! We live in the hallway known as the "shining" which is the farthest room from the bathroom. Needless to say, we are trying to switch rooms as fast as possible. Despite the creepiness, it is very safe. It is fenced in and guarded by the Pond guard, and we have to show our military I.D.s to get in. You can come stay with me in my room though if you want to come visit!
My address is:
Kelsey Kremer
Edelweiss Lodge and Resort
CMR 409 Box 132
APO AE 09053-0132
U.S. postage rates apply so just use regular stamps! and make sure you don't write Germany on the envelop or anything bc that will confuse the post office.
3. Work really is a good 30 minute walk from the Abrahms. I work at Zuggy's... one of three restaurants in the hotel. It is a bar and grill type restaurant and right now I am hostessing but will hopefully get to waitress in the next few months. My uniform is pretty awesome... I get to wear a Pocahontas-esque vest. There are only 8 people who work there and we all have the same days off because the restaurant is closed Wednesday and Thursdays.... we are already planning my first trip--Austria next week to go whitewater rafting and canyoning ( it's kind of like mountain climbing in water I think).
4. The mountains are gorgeous. There are 3 main ones here... the Kramer, the Wank, and the Zugspite. The Zugspite is the tallest mountain in Germany, and called the "Zuggy" for short... hence the name of my restaurant. I went on my first hike yesterday to the Halfway house on the Kramer and had my first authentic german food... schnitzel. It is basically fried pork and not my favorite thing.
5. My 2 favorite places in Garmisch so far are Aron- a coffee shop in town which I have gone to everyday, and the nearby park.
I think that is a long enough update for now. Many more adventures to come!
